In this video, Pastor Josh Weidmann (former HBC staff member) is interviewed by Dr. Malachi O’Brien in the wake of the firing of James MacDonald from Harvest Bible Chapel.
A Statement from Josh written shortly before James’ firing from HBC:
Recently, World Magazine published an article that included a disturbing story about me. I first heard of this story when Julie Roys, the author of the article, called me for an interview. I chose to give her a public statement, along with many other former staff and elders from Harvest Bible Chapel, to speak up about the relational abuse of James MacDonald. I shared many more details with her that I asked not to be public, at this time, as they included other innocent people who were choosing to stay silent. However, I think it is right (though sad) that the wrongdoings of James, some of his family, and those associated with him are being exposed (2 Timothy 3:5). In the Bible, we are instructed to call out “those who persist in sin, rebuke them in the presence of all, so that the rest may stand in fear” (1 Timothy 5:19).
I know many of the people who went public in this article. I trust them. I have shared fellowship with several of them in their homes. I also trust that Julie Roys is doing the right thing by calling this abuse out. For those who do not know Christ, please know this is a rare situation and not something we want to be a regular or frequent practice. We are simply trying to protect the Gospel and the Church from further harm. We all can “stand in fear” and examine our own lives so that we, too, may not make the same mistakes (1 Timothy 4:16).
